A comparatist by training, I write on the history and theory of the novel, on realism and fictionality, on the intersections of law and literature, and on the Indian novel in English. I am currently completing a manuscript on the literary and cultural history of the Indian Emergency, provisionally entitled, Genres of Emergency: Crisis, Continuity, and Corruption in the Indian Novel in English. My teaching, my research, and my way of being in the world often overlap, allowing me to think and write about the political and discursive problems of complicity.
