For Track B, students must complete 10 courses in the English Department. 3 of these must be seminar courses requiring research papers (level 5). The other 5 courses are MA electives (level 4). Track B requires 40 semester hours of course work and a comprehensive examination.

The program in literature requires a course in "Literary Theory".
All MA students must complete one year of study in a modern European or classical foreign language or demonstrate equivalent competence.
